Shiloh sends an email to her siblings

Good Veterans’ Day Morning to you All!

This is Shiloh, fka Bonnie; I’m sitting at my parents’ (Ken and Sandy) computer typing this while Mom is on her treadmill and Dad is out feeding the sheep. It’s been an eventful 10 days since I left the nest. I’ve adjusted pretty well, and Ken and Sandy are starting to get the hang of how to deal with me, and the fact of having an additional family member around the house; I’m quite demanding you see, and want to be with one of them constantly. I really enjoy it when they’re both home to entertain me; after all, the world revolves around us Doodles!

Since I’ve been here, I’ve zapped myself twice on the electric sheep fence and I can tell you this brothers and sisters, stay away from electric fences! I sure will from now on, and I guess that’s the point! There’s so many sights and smells out here on the sheep farm that when I’m outside, I have my nose to the ground constantly, and have really enjoyed running across the occasional deer droppings, which are really fun! Guess what? I had my first face-off with Precious and Ice Cube, the llamas, and I won! Yup,they both backed off as I stared them down with my adoring brown eyes.

We’re trying to get into a routine, but it’s been a bit of a challenge, particularly with house-training. How are you guys doing? My parents are trying to get me to ring a string of bells that they have hanging at the back door when I need to go potty and, after the first four and five days, I think I had it down pretty well, but have since suffered a bit of a set back. Now Ken and Sandy don’t feel comfortable leaving me out of their sight for a moment, even after I just relieved myself and came back in. How are your parents dealing with that? I hate to be left alone, except for nap time, and just yip and yap behind the baby gate in the laundry room until someone comes to “rescue” me. Do you guys act similarly and, if so, how do your parents deal with that situation? Most times, my mom even sits with me while I’m enjoying breakfast and lunch, because otherwise, I’ll want to be by her side and not eat at all! Alpha pack leader? Right!

I’m heading out for my first vet visit this afternoon (Wednesday), a few days after which I hope to visit with some of my parents’ friends’ dogs, one of which is . . . a Labradoodle! On Tuesday night, the 17th, I’m starting four private training lessons with a woman in Salem who is supposed to be just wonderful with puppies. I understand from a friend who owns a puppy that has just completed the course that after just three lessons, there’s been a dramatic positive change in her puppy’s response to her parent, and if that be the case, it’s an opportunity that we just can’t pass up.

Dad’s been taking a few snapshots of me here and there, and I can tell how much I’ve grown in just a few short days, but he hasn’t yet figured out how to download (or is it upload?) the pictures onto the computer to be able to forward them. He said he’ll try to figure it out this weekend, but I may just take over and figure it out for myself and then forward some pics of me and my parents to you.

That’s about it for now; it’s getting close to nap-time, but if you can see our way clearly to do so, I’d appreciate your parents writing to my parents to address some of the challenges that they’re facing. Thanks!

Yours in Doodle Solidarity,

Shiloh
